The Beaton family history is mainly concerned with my father's family, but my mother's side of the family also has stories worth preserving.
My mother was a Reid. This section records what I know about her family and, in particular, the story of her brother, Reginald James Reid.

Reginald James Reid
Reginald James Reid was my mother's brother. His story is one of military service that took him from Australia to Japan and later to Korea as a member of the New Zealand Army.
I have a considerable amount of family information about Reg and will add his story here as it is researched and prepared.
British Commonwealth Occupation Force — Japan
Reg's service with the British Commonwealth Occupation Force in Japan will be documented here, including where he served and what his role involved.
Joining the New Zealand Army
This section will explain how Reg came to join the New Zealand Army and what led him to continue his military service with New Zealand.
Korea
Reg served in Korea with the New Zealand forces. His service, his role with 16th Field Regiment and the circumstances of his death will be documented here.
The Military Medal
Reginald James Reid was awarded the Military Medal for his service in Korea. The citation and supporting material will be included here along with the story behind the award.
His Medals
Reg's medals and citation remain an important part of our family's connection with him.
Return to His Regiment
The original medals and citation have been placed on permanent loan with 16th Field Regiment, Royal New Zealand Artillery.
They remain with his Regiment and with the continuing respect they deserve.
